I have always believed that there’s a different way to do fashion. To me, fashion is excellence, beautiful, fun, playful, easy, and most definitely joyful. But the pressure in the industry and the low value that was placed on Nairobi’s designers disenchanted me so much so, I walked away and moved to rural Kisumu, Kenya 10 years ago.
In Kisumu, I have found a thriving fashion ecosystem that serves women, men, and children beautifully. The talent is plenty, but the opportunities are few for women who dream of selling dresses to their counterparts living in the US and beyond.
Working with our local women over the last 10 years has renewed my belief that both me and my industry have a viable place and a purpose on this planet.
And it is...
To connect women around the world who desire fun, playful dresses, while opening doors for women in rural Kenya to create designs, work from home with dignity, earn their value, and thrive to their highest possible level.
How many dresses have you ordered that not only look nothing like what you saw online, but also had to go into the garbage because there was no return address?
How many dresses are hanging in your closet waiting for “when I lose a few pounds”?
What if you knew that you could buy a fun, playful dress with flair, excellently made, lined, and with pockets - that fits now?
And it... Allowed you to open up the door to entrepreneurship for women in rural Kenya, one at a time, while changing the condition of their work environments?
That’s what you get when you wear an Anna Adero dress!
My grandmother, Rhoda Ger (left), produced organic vegetables on her land. She didn’t get a chance to trade globally with your grandmother. What fun they would have had connecting, woman-to-woman?
We, together, have the unique opportunity to make our ancestors’ dreams come true.
Why not trade with your Kenyan sister, whose desire for global trade in fashion deserves attention and a chance on the world’s stage?
